There are a wide variety of jobs on offer in regional Australia from professional through para-professionals and trades to semi-skilled and unskilled.
At national level, the Australian Government maintains a national on-line job search site - Australian Job Search - that can give you access to over 80,000 jobs throughout Australia. Seek is another national information source allowing you to search for jobs in non metro areas. Seek also includes short term contract assignments.
At local level, a good place to start is by searching job advertisements in regional newspapers.
The National Library of Australia provides an entry point for all Australian newspapers on line.
The Rural Press portal Your Guide provides access to more than 100 regional centres across Australia. It includes job and property search facilities across Rural Press publications.
As you narrow your search, most local government councils in Regional Australia have economic development officer who can often provide advice on opportunities in their specific areas. There are too many councils to list here. Perhaps the best was of accessing council web sites of interest is via the Local Government Associations whose web sites include contact details for member councils. If you are living outside Australia, the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs manages special migration programs intended to attract skilled workers to Regional Australia. The Department also maintains a Skill Matching Database, an internet tool designed to assist employers match potential overseas skilled workers with skilled vacancies in Australia.
