By its nature, some of the material in this site is fairly dry, lists of information sources. Yet the subject matter - the diverse opportunities offered by Regional Australia - is fascinating. Given this, we thought that we might create an editorial section in order to share with you things that we have discovered in the journey involved in creating this web site, as well as our own loves and interests in Regional Australia.
We will try to post at least weekly entries, archiving at the end of each month so that you can explore previous entries by clicking on the month. If you have any queries or want to make a comment contact us on regional@ndarala.com.
Note to readers: We got very badly behind in maintaining this section because of other pressures. For a period we stopped updating entirely. We have now resumed, although it will take us a little time to get going properly.
Monday 10 September 2007: Regional Australia Writers
Back in June, a reader put up the following comment on our blog:
Hi, I'm an American. I was surfing the Internet, trying to learn something about Australia's diverse regions from a cultural perspective as opposed to a merely geographical one. All I turned up was information on Aborigines. Where's the Australian Paul Bunyan? Where's the Johnny Appleseed? Where are the pictures of Eskimos contrasted with lumberjacks, miners, farmers and fishermen? You are right. I almost had to conclude that Australia has no regional flavor at all. (Search for "regional flavor" and you will turn up many websites on wine, but none that pay more than lipservice to culture.)
I must say that this stung. After all, we have been trying to present some of the diversity of life in Regional Australia on both this site and the Regional Living blog.Since then we have been running a series of posts that provide more information on cultural issues. Over coming weeks we will add some of this material to this site, provide links to other material.
Monday 3 September 2007: where has all the time gone?
It is almost twelve months since we last posted in this section. Somehow, time has just got away. No excuses, we will just have to do better in the future!
